Leonardo García-Alarcón

Leonardo García-Alarcón is a renowned Argentinian conductor, harpsichordist, and composer who has made a significant impact on the world of baroque music. Born in La Plata in 1976, García-Alarcón began his musical journey at a young age, starting with piano lessons and later joining the Toccata Instrumentale ensemble to gain experience with period instruments. He moved to Europe in 1997, where he studied harpsichord under Christiane Jaccottet at the Conservatory of Geneva and deepened his theoretical knowledge at the Centre de Musique Ancienne.

García-Alarcón's career took a pivotal turn when he became the assistant to renowned conductor Gabriel Garrido. This experience led him to found the ensemble Cappella Mediterranea, with whom he has performed at prestigious festivals worldwide. His work with Cappella Mediterranea has been instrumental in restoring and popularizing lesser-known baroque compositions, showcasing his dedication to historical authenticity and musical excellence.

As a conductor, García-Alarcón has become a sought-after figure in the classical music scene, leading performances at major institutions such as the Opéra de Paris, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and the Grand-Théâtre de Genève. His innovative approach to concert programming and his active participation in virtual festivals have further solidified his reputation as a forward-thinking artist.

In addition to his conducting and performing career, García-Alarcón has taken on the role of artistic director for La Cité Bleue, a concert hall in Geneva that is currently undergoing restoration.
